Light Maps is Todd Smith's latest project on the theme of tree-climbing. The series of large scale photographs document over a dozen climbs performed by the artist in locations across the Louisville area in 2009. While wearing a custom-made light suit and climbing at night, long-exposures capture Todd's paths through a variety of trees. The resulting streaks of light are the only visual evidence of his movement over time. The suit consists of five strands of colored lights, each corresponding to Todd's limbs and head, which provide the viewer with a color-coded legend to interpret his positions throughout the light path.
